Dr Ramyah Kugathasan

Dr Ramyah Kugathasan is a dual-Fellowship-trained Specialist

Geriatrician with extensive experience across hospital and community

settings. After completing a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery

at Monash University (2006–2010), Dr Kugathasan pursued training in

internal medicine, culminating in Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine in

2021, followed by Fellowship in General and Acute Care Medicine in

2024.

Dr Kugathasan has held diverse roles across metropolitan and regional services,

including consulting across acute geriatric, stroke, rehabilitation, orthogeriatric,

perioperative and community outreach programs. These included positions at major

hospitals such as Austin Health, Blacktown, Norwest, Box Hill, and Maroondah

Hospital. Training highlights include management of complex geriatric syndromes,

surgical liaison, memory, pain, continence and falls and balance clinics, and

specialist stroke and rehabilitation care. Dr Kugathasan has also provided

domiciliary care and led geriatric outreach into residential aged care and provided

medical input for home-based rehabilitation programs.

Currently, Dr Kugathasan provides geriatric medical care through Access Aged

Care, delivering nationwide telehealth consultations to aged care residents, as well

as conducting in-person outreach nursing home visits through St Andrews Health.

This includes comprehensive geriatric assessments, medical management, and care

planning for residents with complex needs.

Dr Kugathasan also undertook advanced training in General and Acute Care

Medicine, gaining experience in cardiology, intensive care, hospital in the home, and

perioperative medicine—strengthening their ability to manage acutely unwell older

adults in varied settings.

Dr Kugathasan brings a holistic and collaborative approach to patient care,

combining clinical expertise with a deep commitment to enhancing health

outcomes for older people. Her work spans the full continuum of geriatric care

—acute, subacute, residential, community and telehealth—making her a valued

contributor to the evolving landscape of aged care in Australia.

Dr Ramyah Kugathasan enjoys listening to world music and watching musical

theatre. She loves spending time with her family when not at work.
